Puppeh!!
So the job has been going great. My co-workers are cool. Management is a bit organized but the place just went through a major remodeling so it's understandable. I'm looking forward to staying with the company for a few years, though I may transfer to another store. Since my sister is here without a place to go, we're going to rent a house to share. It'll make paying things a bit easier with two other roommates. I'm looking to move by February, so that I may finally house my adoptive kitty. I'd like to get her seen by a vet again, just for a check up. In September I will be bringing home a german shepherd puppy and I'm very excited. He'll be my first dog, I'm getting a male from a mix of mostly east german with a bit of west german working lines thrown in, he'll be either be black or dark-black sable. I'll be also be hopefully competing in schutzhund and competitive obedience with him. Current Mood: grateful |

Florida in Winter
I guess this is a mean way to make my first post...seafood off my grill while half the country is buried in snow... Lobster tail & white shrimp marinated in 100% Florida Orange Juice (but of course!), soy sauce, oyster sauce, and garlic and then grilled on a marble stone that's been seasoned with olive oil. Snow peas and broccoli stir fried in a wok on the side burner. And since we're experiencing frigid 54 degree weather tonight, a glass of Tower of London Mead with Scotch Whiskey. And yeah...it was good. Current Mood: tasty |

AHHHHH SNOWWWWWW`
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THERE IS 8 FUCKING INCHES (or 20 fucking cm) OF SNOW ON THE GROUND AND IT IS STILL COMING This is kind of awesome. It's been awhile since we've had a significant snowfall...it's always kind of fun to experience your car going all sorts of directions that are not forward. ARRRGH I WISH MY STUPID DASH CAM WORKED, would I have come kick-ass videos for you crazy kids :D LOOK, MY CAR IS STRAFING!!!in all seriousness, this is a huge step up...yesterday we were under a Flood Advisory (for the second Christmas in a row), and then it all froze. when we left the Christmas party, all my doors were frozen shut; I had to crawl in through the back rear door and kick all the rest of the doors open. it was pretty slick going home last night at 4:00 a.m. Ying, Cheri, Ying's brother Keiran, Chris, and myself had a Christmas marathon consisting of Premonition (Yogen), The Eye (Gin Gwai), and One Missed Call (Chakushin Ari). Currently on the avoid list due to those movies: newspapers, subway trains, gas trucks, dumptrucks, elevators, basements in Thailand, report cards, phone booths, telephones in general, Chinese food places, video cameras, creepy abandoned buildings, dolls that play music, bits of glass, little girls, and Japan. Anyway, weather or no, Chris and I are going shopping. :D Rudolph has been banished for another 12 10 7 or 8 months and I AM GOING TO ENJOY IT. Also, 1/2-priced EVERYTHING. What, retailers? Numbers are down? Lots of unsold merchandise? WHY, LET ME BE OF ASSISTANCE! ok, i'm going to go clean off my car with a push-broom now. don't you people in other states (or countries) get BORED? WHAT DO YOU DO FOR SITUATIONAL DRAMA?! Current Mood: coldCurrent Music: NORMAL, NON-CHRISTMAS MUSIC |

Asshole Until Proven Friendly
It's come to my attention that people I don't know I hate having to interact with. And it seems people never take me seriously when I tell them that, but everyone's experienced just how reclusive I become when I'm not familiar with setting or company. I can't say for certain I'm destined to be alone all my life but if my games, hobbies, and lifestyle are anything to judge by... I think I'll just sit here and wait for nothing to happen. So, question...I have a passion fruit plant growing. It started in a tiny little pot and is now in a massive ceramic one as it grew. It's now three feet tall (which thrills me, as it started at the length of my thumb). Problem is, my passion fruit wants to creep. And I have no surfces that I can see that would be good for creeping- tops of cabinets or bookshelves, maybe, curtains...I have no idea. It's started creeping around itself in little spirals in an effort to stay upright it seems. It's propped upright with a thick wooden dowel...should I perhaps get another dowel and fasten it to the top of the other one? Or should I try to convince it to creep around my TV stand or piano or something? (I don't grow very many plants, obviously...so I want to do right by my little tree. ;D) And while I'm at it, will old soil make it hard for a plant to bloom? I have a Christmas cactus that usually blooms pink flowers around this time of year but it's completely green still, not a single bud on it. The soil is rather old and somewhat dry, though, so I'm thinking I need to repot it...? Thanks for any help! |

Peppermint Meltaways These cookies (someone else posted the recipe, so I won't duplicate it) were a new recipe for me this year, and they got raves from everybody that tried them! They're buttery, soft and just minty enough without knocking you over. I opted not to crush the peppermint on top, just to see how it went, and they were fine without it. |

Christmas 2009
We celebrated Christmas day today, cos that's when Cooper's siblings could all get together. Last night I slept in the living room next to the Christmas Tree...a REAL tree...complete with Pine scent ^.^ And the colourful lights and ornaments and the gifts piled high under the tree...brought back so many memories. For the first time in a long time I felt that Christmas spirit rekindled, the same feelings I had as a kid. To my surprise I had a stocking (rather gift bag cos I didn't have a stocking), filled with random goodies ^.^ And a couple gifts as well, nothing awe inspiring but that doesn't really matter whatsoever. Just the fact that Cooper's family got me something was awesome ^.^ Its snowing outside, several inches of snow on the ground, and everything looks so peaceful and calm out there. Chilly and overcast outside, warm inside...I like this. Even if there were no gifts under the tree for me, this has been a stunning Christmas. I do feel a little awkward since I didn't get anyone anything (then again, can't afford to) but next Christmas will be different. I'm looking forward to doing this again but being more involved in the proceedings ^.^ Just waiting on the food to be ready. It's really good to get away from the drudgery of everyday life, and put the cares and worries of the world behind you for a day or two. Current Mood: cheerful |

White Boxing Day We had rain for Christmas, just enough that we worried about flooding where the runoff was being held back by collapsed snow, so we ended up out cutting drainage routes through snow and ice around the barn. The temperature dropped right after that, and around sunset it began to snow. Tentative at first, we thought it might amount to an inch or so by morning. Well, it picked up overnight and we got to three inches of fluffy powder by dawn. It's still coming down and has added another inch, with no sign yet of stopping. This has to be an edge effect of the major blizzard that is affecting Nebraska and the Dakotas, hundreds of miles west of us. Here it's just pretty. The power is back on since yesterday, the predicted temperatures will hover in a manageable range of 15 to 28°F. over the next few days, and nothing is urgent until at least Monday. I suppose I could clean house but I'm more likely to read one of several books I got for Christmas. [EDIT: As of sunset, we had accumulated somewhere between nine and ten inches of new powder over the top of the old hard frozen snow from two weeks back. It looks beautiful, but is so deep it goes above the top of my rubber boots in some places. Gary discovered that the fields out back have a lot of standing water under the blanket of snow. Once again, we are being damaged by the ruined drainage the subdivision idiots created to the north of us. And the snow is still falling here.] Current Mood: peaceful |
